Two questions:
where would a person install a temp guage on an AW4?
What types of vehicles had 'add on' hand brakes that could be connected to an XJ? Both of my jeeps had the release button pop off and instead of replacing them with something that will just break again, id rather put in something better, like an adjustable hand brake from a fork lift or humvee, but dont have access to either. Then I could use the ebrake 'cup' for a cup holder.

Im trying to hook stock switches up as well. It appears that while most cherokees that had options available for certain years have main wire harnesses with the features, some features require pigtails to complete the add on, or have thr connectors taped back out of sight. Both of my heeps have rear defrost, and neither had a full switch complement (the 93 had rear defrost and washer, the 91 had rear defros and trans shift switch).
Whst I fojnd is that some jeeps have all the connectors and some dont. The 91 I have has the connectors for all the switches (rear wash, defrost, fog lights, and trans shift), but i cant find the fog light connectors under the front bezel. I suspect that there is a pigtail that plugs in under the airbox.
In the case.of the dash switches, since I want both jeeps to have all options, im looking for the connectors myself presently. I found one unaccounted for 8position connector so far, but not the skinny ones like on the switches. Will write back if I find them.
On mine, and on the set I cut out of a jy, the connector for defrost is a red 6 position with only 4 wires.
I would be more concerned whether the person reconnected the hatch wiring at all when they put the hatch in. If you still have sound they might have hooked it up.
If all else fails, you could just figure out if either side is already hooked to ground, and put a switch, fuse, and a wire back to the hatch to hit the other side with. It just takes 12 volts acoss it to heat up.

Ok here it is one 3" lift kit on the Cheap. 1 set of 1999 s-10 rear Springs. One set of 3" coil spacers (thank u Woodie 99) one set of front shock adapters ... Not pictured one set of used rancho 5000 shocks .. shocks cost me a 3:73 carrier for a Dana 30 front (thank you again Woodie) rear Springs were $40 pick n pull. So a whooping $50 or so for the entire lift. It can be done people. Thanks also to CF a world of GREAT people and a lifetime of knowledge. Don't know why the double pics.. LOL.

AW4 (Toyota A340)
Do you know what year models of Toyota A340 transmission can be swapped into an XJ? I've heard that the A340 and AW4 are the same.

I intend to do a version of the manual sift mod on my transmission, and ensure that the feature is locked into 'power' as necessary. I have read that these switches can get dirty and not make proper contact, so I may try cleaning mine.
Someone chime in about the toyota thing, my cousin would love to hear of it, since he wants to put an auto in his toyota and can pick up an XJ trans for free on the occasion, if it is a possible swap.

Alright, so to remove any misconception of the damn front JK shocks. Here it is:
JK Rubi shocks are virtually the same size as stock cherokee shocks (about .75"
longer extended). So really, I don't know why you would get them over stock shocks if you are lifting 3". Might as well save up and get shocks that won't limit flex. Thanks!

I know this because I found out the hard way. I'm up to 6.5" of lift (i was lower b4), and I basically have stock length shocks, and the cash I spent could have gone to the correct shocks. I had read somewhere that they were good for 4.5" of lift. So yeah, the rears however I believe are longer.

I have a '90 that was obviously rear ended. The Sheet metal right where the hatch would latch is pushed pretty far forward, nbut saveable. It looks like the previous owner hooked everything up. I will be looking for that red, 6 position, 4 wire harness. THank you so much for your advice!!

Also, i ran my vin and it tells me my XJ came with an automatic transmission. It has a 5spd in it with nasty clunking at my feet. I Have ruled out u joints, is it possible that the previous owner screwed something when doing the trans swap? or while installing a new clutch? The clunking is never when your in gear, on the gas, its always when you let off the gas. (when theres no tourqe on the drive train). Does anyone have any words of advice for me? What should i look into first? THanks guys and gals, you have all been a great help since day one!

Do not believe posts that say you can use a late 90s F150 shock with a bastard lift. I spent 2 hours at oreillys looking at shocks and they are not longer than a stock XJ shock, which appears to be around 20.5 inches fully extended. 97 Dodge ram 1500 shocks are approx 24 inches extended with approx 9 inches of travel. BTW Im talking rear shocks here. I could NOT find a shock that was 24+ inches for the front however. Atleast non that were in stock. I wound up going with some sort of chevrolet truck rear shock that was a approx 24 inches and approx 9-10 inches of travel. I will get the part numbers in the morning out of the garage if I remember to.
So for the rear of my bastard lift I have 97 S10 blazer leaf packs with the xj main. total of 5 leafs. I didnt measure before the lift so I have no clue how much lift I actually got. Im guessing 4-5 inches thus the reason for going with a 24 inch shock (4 inches longer than a stock shock.

#5 says WJ Rotors and Calipers, are these not the same bolt pattern? And the WJ master & booster should work for rear disk setup yes?

Hey there I was wondering if the Ford Electric Fan mentioned in the list is the plastic fan in the XJ. I have a 2000 XJ Sport and the plastic fan blades are completely broken so I have to replace it...is this the correct fan? Sorry for my limited knowledge!
