Default Brushguard light probz

So today me and a buddy of mine worked on his jeep a little.
he has a couple of lights on his brishguard but they haven't worked since hes had it so we decided to make em work!

ANYWAY

The wiring was all bad. I'm not very good with electrical and even i knew it was garbage. So I decided to start from the beginning and i used the diagram attached. We went and bought a new on/off switch, a relay, a safety fuse or whatever they're called and some more wire (14g)

Ran the wires exactly how its showed in the diagram.
Only thing was, I wasn't sure where exactly to put the wire from the switch to the fusebox. So after a little trial and error...Boom the lights are on..

then they're off...

and then the switch that i bought stopped working.... it no longer clicked on and off. it was lit up but i couldnt toggle the lights.

so i left everything hooked up and we went and bought a new switch
plugged everything in, turned on the Jeep and the lights where working!

then when i flipped the switch to turn them off i heard a pop. kind of like when a fuse blows and then turned it back on then back off and pop.
did that about three times then THAT switch broke too!

Not sure if i need a higher am switch? (the one i was using was 20amp) or if i need to fix the wiring somewhere... or maybe the ground is bad?

idk!

almost sounds like the relay is not working and letting too much power to the switch.
