Hope some one can help me. I have 97 cherokee 4.0. I have had it 3 years and it always lost a little antifreeze but add some once a month and no problem. It ran a gallon low today driving down the road and overheated. I pulled over and within 5 minutes was down below operating temp. I filled it up with water and drove home another 40 miles ran at normal temp. Checked the fluid again and maybe a half gallon low and brownish in color...Also while i was over heated steam was coming out the front of the water pump

You cooling system is begging for maintenance. What is the history of routine cooling system maintenance? (ie: coolant flush/fill). I recommend it every 30k with conventional (green) coolant.

How many miles on the following items?

Radiator, radiator cap, water pump, thermostat, fan clutch, serpentine belt?

thans i found the problem it was a faulty thermostat took it out runs great and loses no water gonna flush and clean tomorrow and replace it

i have had it three years and only put 10K on it. I was maintained well before i got it all the records were still in the jockey box. it has just been a back rig and toy until now that i down sized my family and dont need the expidition
