Thanks everyone I'll take it in and have it tested before I do the flush. I did crawl underneath but idk where it's leaking from. It's enough of a leave for drops to from but it appears to be running from somewhere. When I take it to have it tested I think I'll see if they can tell me where it's leaking too. I looked into the over flow reservoir and there is a good amount of something on the bottom. It could be that sticky mud stuff, it's about the same color but thick.

 

You can test it yourself, its easy, Autozone will loan you the tool

 

Neat! I never heard of that. I suppose a guy could shim open the one way valve in the cap and run a tube from the overflow nipple into a bit of that fluid and let it bubble, also.

 

He says I have to drain some of the coolant so it won't suck any up. So basically I can just drain enough to where it doesn't suck up right?

 

Yeah you want to pull gasses not liquids

 

Ok I did that test. The liquid is still blue. What now? I guess it's not a combustion leak but I still can't seem to find a visible leak and now what could explain the muddy gunk?

 

Well that rules out combustion gases in coolant. Suggest pressure testing system. If good flush and/or clean system. I've "heard" coolant can become acidic over time, combine that with cast iron, maybe a little air, you have rust.

 

I'm going to run the test one more time before I return it, just in case, but I guess next I'll do the pressure test.

 

Did you get the engine warmed up fully?

 

Yeah it was all the way warmed up

 

Time for vinegar flush, 1 qt vinegar the rest water, bring to operating temp, then cooldown and drain. Couple of flushes with tap water after that. When you're ready for the final fill you should buy a couple of gallons of distilled water and add that to the antifreeze, it won't react as harshly

 

You can flush it with wisk. Yes you heard that right Wisk the laundry detergent. My grandfather taught me that trick long ago and oddly enough it always seems to get whatever gunk you got going on in the cooling system out.

 

Cool I think I'm going to flush it tomorrow. So last time I flushed it i Cut a T in the hose going to my heater cord and inserted the little thing that the whole screws into so I have it already in there I ran the heater and I ran the jeep on and I continuously let the water drain from the radiator and just come running it like that with the constant stream running through I did that until the stream was clear and then I let it run a little longer. Should I put the whisk where the vinegar whatever use it in and then close the drain plug and let it run for a while like that or is it something that I let continuously run through the system and continuously drain with the hose in?

 

Pour a bottle of whisk in and fill with water let it run through the system then flush it. It pulls all the junk out as it circulates and boils. Be warned though it makes a ton of bubbles if theres any leaks anywhere.

 

That's good, if there is a leak it can help me find it.
