[QUOTE=Jor2010dan;1187580]yea

this is what happens

QUOTE]

Damn man, That sucks. What kind of rims are they that they are so thick? It's hard to tell in the pic but they look like older style rear wheel drive cast rims or something. Maybe off a Camaro or something?

Camaro wheels won't fit XJ. Wrong bolt pattern.

Mustang wheels will.

Short stud XJs were meant to have steel wheels, which are thinner at the hub than aluminum wheels.

But even factory aluminum wheel equipped XJs have the short studs, which are barely adequate.

I know. I have 2 of 'em.

Yeah, like I said I wasn't sure of the wheel. I didn't bother looking up the lug pattern just used that as an example. It just looked like an older wheel style to me.

What's weird is, is that you lost a rear wheel not the front one. My rear studs are way longer than the fronts. Did something else happen to make you lose the rear wheel? That must have been scary.

So those Mustang wheels are actually thicker than the stock aluminum XJ wheels at the lug holes? I've had multiple set of rims and tires on multiple cars and actually never noticed that. I noticed steel to aluminum thickness but not one aluminum rim to another aluminum rim. That's very good to know.

Well, the Mustang wheels usually have to handle more horsepower.

I guess it just depends on who engineered the wheel, and the type of aluminum alloy they used, that determines how thick the wheel hub has to be.

yeah, that makes sense. If all rims were the same thickness, then all cars would have the same length studs. You learn something new everyday.
