broken driver's seat, please help?
Ralph77, ended up having to get my first set of box end ratcheting wrenches to get this stuff tightened down proper. The 13mm Craftsman sockets I have are too shallow for the studs in my Jeep, and too tall for the fancy-pants Grande Cherokee seat. Harbor Freight 20something bucks, and another free LED flashlight.
Leaving the big plastic door-side guard with the switches on, it covers up the hardware for the reclining back of seat.
Saw some guy's video where he said the hole and stud pattern was 11.5" square. Nope. 11" wide, 14" front to back. And getting this seat on all four studs at the same time was the longest, most annoying bit of everything. After finally setting it on all four studs proper, had to keep holding it from tipping over and coming off a console-side stud. First time I set it and tightened the front two nuts, the seat wasn't even over those holes.
After driving it over to HF, and hopefully settling the seat in, tightened all four nuts again with the box end. Right rear, closest to console, was a good 1/4"+ away from fully tight.
That's the **** fer dolly. 13mm swivel head ratcheting box end wrench from Harbor Freight.
Nuts from my Jeep on top row, nuts from the donor Grand Cherokee below. Used the bottom row for install.
Old seat. Seems beyond welding to me.

I have taken apart enough seats to know which nuts are the XJ ones.
Almost makes me wonder if next time I am in the boneyard if I should start raiding WJ's and maybe ZJ's for them. LOL.
Think I will get some bigger washers like you thought of to use if I ever take my seats apart again.
You only got one seat right?
I was under the impression that you were going to swap the bottom framework in yours.
About time on the ratcheting wrenches. MLOL.
If you only knew how many types of wrenches I have you would be what??????
I am almost tempted to take them all out, take a picture, and post it here. EMLOL.
Little tip.
When you are under the Jeep working on something, are half way done, and realize that you should be
using one of your ratcheting wrenches instead of the regular one you are using. Thinking I am almost done
I will just fight with it. Don't. Crawl out from under the Jeep and get the damn wrench. Will reinforce that you
own them and you will start using them when it is a better option. Trust me on this one.

That seat looks all sorts of FUBAR'ed.

Rethinking that idea about adding washers for a sturdier connection. This seat was difficult enough dealing with one time.

Looks like if I want to toss wider washers under those bolts, I am going to have to take the bolt in and match it with something.
Those are, apparently, M8 studs:
https://teamcherokee.com/front-seat-...che-1984-2001/
Those flanges on the nuts seem to be 3X the diameter of the 8mm hole so anything 24mm or smaller isn't going to help anything. Neither is mild steel. Of course, everything is back in there and I am not the limber contortionist who can crawl under the seat and measure anything.
Edit: It took a minute to get used to driving this thing with a proper sitting-up seat. Biggest thing was how much easier pressing clutch and brake pedals is now.

Hunted around town for hardened steel washers and flange nuts. Didn't find any. Got some 1 1/4" OD stainless fender washers from Home Depot. BTW, 2" OD is too big for the first corner I tried. Should have used 5/16" ID for all of them, but I wasn't thinking right and got 3/8" ID too. Four of each, stacked the one with the big hole on the bottom, small hole on top, and tightened down the nuts. Must not have noticed any 1 1/2" OD, because there is some clearance with 1 1/4".
Hopefully, this seat won't rip through its moorings like the original.
