You would be correct.. broken flexplate. Now this rod is broken.

99 xj sport, 255,000 miles. Motor is fine for its age, suspension needs work, but minus some rust on the roof and a cracked head panel it's in decent shape. Still considering selling it.. but I won't get much for it and I would be really bummed not having it anymore. If I had the money to get a beater pickup for now, the xj could be a side project but it is my DD.

And I'm not swapping to 4wd - my 4 w driveshaft is removed and stolen.

My plan is to remove my transmission and replace it with a younger one. Found a trans, 242 transfer case and 4w driveshaft for $350 (?!) from a '00 limited. Going to give the guy a call today and try to borrow some wheels to go see it.

I did the same thing changing an engine.
Can the shifting rod be changed without dropping the transmission out?
I did have a parts xj with !60k miles but would rather change rod if possible
