Default broke something. need help

this weekend was trucks gone wild event at redneck yacht club in punta gorda. was awesome. sseen some crazy stuff. will post pics when i get time. but i broke something on my jeep and not sure what.

the jeep will just rev when im in 2wd, as soon as i put it in 4wd it will move. SOMETIMES it will go in 2wd and move but if i let off gas and then try and reapply it, it will just rev. i checked tranny fluid and water obviously got in it because the fluid was just dripping off the stick. my question is, do i need a new tranny or will a fluid change fix it maybe? is it possible its just slipping out cuz of the fluid

Change the fluid and fliter.then you should be fine.(I would if you can swing it is to change it a couple of times with cheap fluid to get as much water as possiable out of itleaving the old filter on till you put in the good fluid at the end of your changeing of fluids. This is just what I would do you'll be fine with just a swap and keep an eye out for any remaining water.) good luck.Try this first hopefully its caused by the water, thats what I think. But Its only an opinion.

Is it only having problems going back and forth on the transfer case? Crawl under the jeep and have a buddy change it from 2wd to 4wd back and forth while its off and check to see if its moving correctly. the linkage should form a Z, mine popped out, caused by someone trying to pop it into 4wd and back to 2wd on the fly in my manual without putting down the clutch to take pressure off the drive train.

Common problem, its a little plastic clip on the end that brakes.

does it make any noise (clunkin grindin etc,) kinda sounds like you need a tranfer case but i'd look into the linkage first

no grinding or anything. sometimes it will actually work and drive in two wheel but then it quits.

well if it drives in 4 wheel drive, but not two, it is either the transfer case or the linkage. I don't see how the tranny would have anything to do with it.

Sounds to me more like the linkage. Check the linkage and make sure its actually shifting properly. If you reach under and grab onto the linkage you shouldnt have any movement in it at all from underneath.

he says it works in 4wd but not 2wd. so.. if it was a trany issue you would not have eather, if it was the x-fer case i think youd have the same problem in 4wd as well. i would check the rear end and drive shaft. does the drive shaft turn in 2wd when reving the engine in "D"?

One more thing to help with the water is to add a little bit of seafoams trans tune ,just a bit though cause it does absorb water.Add when you change fluid and filter.

if the linkage falls out the side of the transfer case it wont move.
