Default Broke little plastic cover at top of bell housing, need to replace?

I accidentally broke off the plastic foam insulated cover that is at the top of bell housing when I was replacing my crank position sensor. Do I need to cover that hole? I'm afraid if rocks, mud or debri getting into the housing when off road.

No worries. Mine never had one that I've seen, I think it was mid 90's first time I looked.

Thank you. Was a little worried about water or unwanted junk getting in their. Figured if it was real important they wouldn't have made it out of plastic. I've had two temp. Registration tags on this jeep and hope to pass smog real soon. Last thing I need is major problems from negligence. Thanks again
