I am about to do an overhaul of nearly everything a basic mechanic can do on my 96 xj 4.0 including head gasket, cooling system and ignitions system. This leaves me to what brand should I put on? My first choice is oreilly's re-manufactured water pump as it very budget friendly. Will I regret getting it in a month ? any knowledge will be appreciated.

 

Reman is fine for water pumps, IMO. The only thing they re-use is the casing and drive plate, the impeller, bearings and seal are all replaced. I've had no worse luck with them than with OEM new. (not so for starters and alternators)

 

any thoughts about the power-steering as well ?

 

I just went to the parts store for the pump. I use Advance Auto's.

If you have the cash go with a Durango box. Its a common upgrade.

 

i just got a new one last week at advance it was a zro. model 110-5500 they said it is the betterone they sale.
