So, this is my first post here but I have found this site very helpful in the past so here goes. Got in my car today and everything was normal but when I got to a stop sign my brakes suddenly lock up. The brakes have never been good on this, they make a hissing noise when the pedal is depressed, but I barely put any pressure on the pedal and was only going like 5 and the tires still squealed. I let off the brakes and they don't stay locked and now its parked because I don't want to drive on the highway with it. Any clues?

sounds like there is water in the system. drain all fluid and bleed the brakes with new fluid

I had a similar thing on my 97 xj. I would drive a short distance first thing , use the brakes lightly and it would lock up one of the front wheels and one of the back but not always. I stripped the drums off and greased and cleaned the shoes and used abrasives to rough up the drums. Stripped the front brakes and did the same thing. All worked well after that. Hope this might help
