Brake Upgrade for 16" Wheels
I've never liked the brakes on my XJ, but even less so since I've upgraded to a set of 16" Moab Wheels with 245/75/16 Goodyear MTRs. Its my DD, and I would really like to have better stopping power. I plan on doing the ZJ rear disc upgrade at some point, but I would like to start with my front brakes.
I've found 16" Brake Upgrade kits online, but they cost upwards of $1000. I'm wondering if there are any junkyard options out there? Any body done this?
Also, I've read up on the WJ Conversions, and I really don't want to have to deal with the hassle of changing tie rod ends and all the other stuff that goes with the WJ, I'm wanting to keep it simple.

OK, I googled it, it doesn't seem quite as bad to do as I originally thought and the performance seems pretty Bad A$$. If I go this route I will definitely do a tech write up for the site. Thanks for the advice.

if you do all the work yourself, the wj brake swap can be done for about $350 depending on where you get your parts. i did the swap to my 89 and love it. you will need at least 3" of lift to be able to use the wj steering though. i reused the tie rod ends and shortened the tie rods to fit the xj. i had to straighten the wheel-to-wheel tie rod ends to clear the diff cover. luckily i had access to a 25-ton press that could do it. i am running 15" wheels with 3.75" backspacing and they clear the brakes by about 1/8". there were other things i had to do, i just can't remember right now. let me know if have any questions.
