I just take rotors to the machine shop to be turned. If they can't be turned, the machinist will tell me.

In short there is no specification available on the rotors e.g. minimum thickness that could be measured?

Normally rotors have the minimum thickness numbers cast right into them near the hub.

True, but mine are so old, I am sure the numbers won't exist. So it would help to know the specification? Is there an online manual I can reference?

I know my local oreilys (schucks checkers etc...) can turn rotors if needed and they know the minimum thickness so try calling around if you haven't figured it out yet

One thing about rotor being turned the thinner they get the more likely warping will occur with usage . Jm2cw...

Also, what brake pads people use in Australia on there cherokee's? And do these brake calipers are designed with brake pad sensor or am I just going too advance in thinking for Jeep 1996.

Remove the wheel, it's right there on the rotor:

Agreed ^^^^as for sensors unsure if any one make pads for xjs with a wear sensor like some vechicles have that will start squeeking when the tab starts rubbing the rotors .

I looked up a rotor for a '96 on NAPA's site, and they list a "discard thickness" of 0.89". I know the rotors changed somewhere in there: '96, '97, can't remember for sure.
