Default brake rotor replacement question

I am looking to replace the frt pads, as the one side is getting down there, but the rotor's look ok and dont seem to be warped(maybe a tad thin) but i didnt mic them.

Should I be ok with just throwing new pads on?

Trying to replace things as I can and with winter coming I would rather do it now.

Thanks

Rich

If you have a mic check it, if not remove the rotor, hold a metal straightedge against the back of the rotor, you may have to clean the rusty edges of the rotor enough to get the straghtedge to lay flat against the surface and hold that in front of a light. If there is any light above the rotors surface below the straight edge, then replace. If not try to check the front side with the straightedge light trick. But the front side youll have to just get the corner of the straightedge on there and check at many spots. Im a CNC machinist and if the part is warped even .0010 inch you can see light with a straightedge against it. So when you do the backside first that will also tell you if its warped.

Why is only one side low? Id bleed or flush the lines also.

Do the brakes pulsate? If so replace the rotors.

When you do the brakes make sure you grease the riding points of the brake pads on the steering knuckle, and check for notches there.

Thats all i got for ya

If only one side is low, then I would say you've got caliper issues. I would get that checked out before you go throwing new pads on.

There is no "issues" just noticed the pads when i replaced the rims and tires.

The left side is thinner then the right side, not by much but you can def tell.

How do you check the calipers? I dont see any leaks?

How many miles are on the brake job now? I would take the rotors off and have them turned. On the calipers take the bolts out and put some brake grease on them and buy some new pads. Drain the brake fluid add new and put it all back together.

Calipers are rarely the problem, it's probably air in the line. Or a partially collapsed line. I'd bleed them first. Calipers are stronger then people think.

Feel in behind the caliper...if there's no fluid (providing you don't check it when its raining out ;D) there's no leak. Caliper seals can sometimes go. It could also be that one rotor is thinner than the other.
If there's no leak, bleed your lines. If your rotors aren't warped or rutted, put on new pads but get a mic on them rotors at some point and make sure they're uniform thickness.
