Question Brake rotor question!

I just picked up my 1996 Jeep Cherokee Country today. Only problem this thing has is the front brake rotors are bad. I went and picked up new ones so my question is, how long do you have to let the brakes cool after running the car for it to be cold enough to touch.

I need to do some errands in the morning around 12-1 ish, so im wondering if they'll be cool enough by about 6 ish.

Even if they are still hot just use a rag or pair of gloves to pull em off.

I have driven my cherokee around town for a while then hit the parts store and went home to do the brakes. In the short amount of time it took me to remove the front tire and get it up on jackstands the rotors were cool enough to touch. they were still pretty warm but nothing that could cause burns or even any pain.

I'm not sure what you mean by "bad" rotors, but if they still have some thickness to them, you might want to consider taking them into a part house to get the rotors turned. $10 each or so is a better deal if they can still get turned.

They are the original rotors and have already been resurfaced once, and they're starting to cut groves into the brake pads so i believe it was time for some new ones. I got some Raybestus for $43 each at a autostore around here so it didn't run me all that much.

Definally time to replace those rotors. Now that your have the time to replace them, make sure you clean all the contat points on the bracket holding the brake pads and check the caliper pins for rust and pitting. Replace the pins if they look bad. Nothing worse than replacing all the brake parts and have a caliper hang up due to corroded pins.
Don't forget to coat the contact points with a quality brake anti-seize compound to keep everything moving smoothly. You may already know all this, but there maybe others out there that just PAD SLAP a new set of brakes on and think everything is good.

What I do when I put new rotors on is if they are hot like your going to have I take the wheels off and put them on the stands and let them sit for around 10 mins. This helps the cool alot faster. If they still are not cool to work on just take a wet rag and rub it on the rotor to help cool it down more.
