It's recommended unless you like to use your brake lines as limiting straps.
Grab some 1995 Jeep YJ rear brake lines ($20 or so) from the parts store and then bend your front hard lines down so you gain 3 more inches from the front lines.
Here's how to do it:

Front lines can have thier mounting points like Mudd shows.
For the rear, IF you don't feel like messing around with 15+ year old metal fittings that are probably rusted to the steel lines,
Just get one of my Brakeline Extenders.
Simple bolt-in installation. Retains hydraulics integrity.
To top off----> No bleeding required.
Just click the link in my sig to go to my Vendor Showcase thread, where you can see the brakeline extender installed.
