I need some help. if I press my brakes with out my lights on my parking lights and dash lights come on only when brakes are pressed. but when I do turn my lights on my brake lights are stuck on and when I press the brakes it lights up even brighter but dim back to the parking lights

 

But doesn't dim back to parking lights

 

Check out the brake pedal switch, push the plunger in and out, check the side to side play, (shouldn't be any), if faulty, replace.

Note: These switches are for a 95 XJ.

 

Ok mine is a 98 xj with cruise. could a bad switch make my parking lights come on when I press my brakes?

 

Shouldn't you got a trailer hook up ?

 

Don't know about that, just check the switch and go from there.

dude.. when i read your post i laughed out loud... i know its not funny.. but i can just imagine the first time you pressed your brakes and the dash lights came on... you were like... WTF???

but seriouslly.. this really sounds like some wires crossing paths.. it has to be... If everything was working normally and then all of the sudden when you press your brake pedal and that happens.. somewhere a wire got crossed.. or something melted...

let me ask the question that should have been asked first... did you do ANYTHING prior to this happening?? or was it out of the blue

 

Any new bulbs installed recently I see this a lot when driving people hit brakes and parking light come on in front...only thing they have in common the flasher maybe pull it see if it stop.

 

It just happen out of the blue at first it would happen every so often now its all the time. no I haven't put any new bulbs in it. but my passenger side turn signal up front has the bulbs expose cause I accidentally hit something and busted the cover out but I don't know

 

I have the same problem and can't figure out how to fix it either

Since no one updates these threads I figured I would share what I found to fix my problem. It was the trailer harness behind the driver light. Rather than fix it I just removed it since she will never be towing anyway
