Default Brake light on dash? 89 cherokee

Recently I noticed the brake light has been back on in the dash of my cherokee again. The light did shut off when I replaced my master and booster back during Christmas. It started as going on and off and sometimes dim during night driving. Also noticed it not stopping well compared to my 88 comanche. Also the parking brake had stopped working also. In the fall I start commuting with my cherokee and I don't want to lose my brakes at 70 on interstate.

Usually a brake light staying on means the shoes are still engaging. Have you looked at them? They might be metal on metal now. Could also be the adjuster not working properly. Best bet is too inspect brakes and replace parts as needed.

Either the parking brake is partially on, or you have an imbalance in the hydraulic system, often from a damaged cylinder, leaky line or badly out of adjustment rear brakes.
Time to inspect everything.

Shoes have plenty of life left in them, so possibly rear brakes? Brake light worked like normal when it was off, ex- turn on when parking brake applied. Also when I do slam on my brakes both front tires would lock up. And with street tires the front tires would drag when the high idle get stuck on.
