brake hanging up???

brake hanging up???
2000 xj 8.25 rear, non abs
when i drive, it intermitently sounds like my passenger side rear brake is hanging up...could it be dirt/small rock making the noise, im not real sure how to describe it other than a light brake squeke (sp). like something is contacting the drum maybe?
could it be i just need new rear brakes, since ive never put new ones on? is it a bearing going maybe (doubtful)? any insight or past experience is appreciated!
