Default Brake fluid leak

Ok so 2 days ago i noticed my brakes were being mushier than usual and the brake warning light came on. I called my friend who works at a repair shop and told him about it and he said to check my brake fluid, which I've never done before. So I checked it and it was all black and pretty much empty inside the little reservoir. I filled it up with brake fluid and it seemed better, for a little while. I drove it that night then yesterday I checked again and almost half of the fluid was already gone! Then I noticed that it was leaking on my rear right wheel, so I immediately took it in to get checked. Also, they aren't open today so I haven't heard anything yet, do you guys think this could be a major problem, or something that can easily be fixed??

Sounds like one of your brake cylinders blew a seal.

If you state the year of vehicle, miles, and location info it would be helpful. From your description it could be one of a number of things.

Just a note, please don't drive on public roads with "mushy" brakes.

it's a 2000 Cherokee with 138,000 and I live in Kansas, and that's why I took it in I didn't want to drive around with brakes like that.
