Default Brake to the floor

A couple days ago i bought a 92 xj with 171,000 miles for $1100. I have had a few problems. One of which is with the brakes. Since i test drove it the brake pedal went all the way to the floor and stopping distance is like 20 feet. I knew the pads were bad from the beginning so i figured that was the issue. I changed them today and though there was only a centimeter of pad, that didn't fix the problem. The parts of the brake lines that goes into the master are pretty corroded. I'm going to attempt to bleed them tomorrow. I was gonna just go ahead and run new lines and get a new cylinder, but i don't want to if its not necessary. Are lines and master cylinders a common issue on jeeps of this age? any other suggestions on what this might be? thanks

'Sup '92 buddy? I just picked up my 92 Sport for $200. Same problem with mine. I figured its the master cylinder since it has been sitting for about 2 years. Check your fluid level in the master cyl. It they are both full, then its your master cyl. If one is empty or very low then you have a leak and need to fix and bleed the system.

I cannot locate a master cyl here in Sioux Falls to save my life. I can get a new one from the $dealer$ for $179. All of the parts places need 5 days to get one. lame. And I don't even have ABS.

This is a perfect oppurtunity to upgrade to the later style dual diaphram booster and late model master cylinder. I did and it is much easier to stop and it does so in a shorter distance.

Look at the technical section and specificly the larger brake booster. HERE

This is sweet, Thanks. Did you swap rods yourself or send away for it?

Neither I used the 97+ booster and just removed the nylon bushing. It would work but it was hard to get it out of park. We decided it needed a little motion and was planning on filing it a bit then decided on just removing the little thin nylon looking bushing and it works much better now.
