Default Brake drum extemely hot and burnt smell after new brake shoes.

Not sure what's wrong . On my 2000 XJ i blew a wheel cylinder on passenger side.So I did new pads and wheel cylinders. The driver's side is extremely hot with a burnt smell . passenger side normal. It's not adjusted to tight and the pads are correct.

What am I missing here? I've done dozens of shoe replacements. I do hear a bearing going out but I assume its from the front. Can a shot axle l bearing cause this ? Or is this normal break in ?

did you have the drums turned? It could be an out of round drum rubbing. Take it apart and it should be obvious where its rubbing on the new shoe.

Does the parking brake cable on that side move freely inside the cable housing?

New drums. I readjusted the star wheel to tight and then loosened it to a slight hang while turning the rotor by hand , again for the 3rd time . I bought the better brake shoes. It's working good now. Must be a longer break in with these pads.

I had a vehicle once that after replacing a brake cylinder shortly after right rear did that it would even smoke. replaced drum and shoes as it got hot enough to warp and next week other side did that. I think what happened due to neglect of not changing fluid after 15 years so much moisture was in the system and when I was bleeding the system some rust broke loose and locked down the cylinders....only thing I could think of.
