It's a 96 5 speed 4WD. 310 000 km and free from rust (it was from outside the rust belt) almost everywhere but a few spots by the roof rack. Looks like mostly surface but if it goes all the way through my old man was a welder for 20 years so I know I can get some new metal in there.

Underneath was surprisingly clean, owner claims it was mostly highway driven and used to get down logging trails by his cottage. I noticed some fluid splash around the speed sensor, and a small amount of oil around the oil filter area. It ran great, idled smooth, shifting felt a little off but I have not drove a standard for about 2 years so it could be just me. Starter seemed really loud when I started it up.

Problems include: ball joints, I did not notice but owner says he was told to have them replaced. Catalytic sounds like its rattling. I am assuming that the honeycomb inside has broken apart and is popping around. Owner said brakes might need replacement, but they seemed responsive and in decent shape when I took it for a quick spin. I will have to wait until I get it home an am able to spin the wheels off for a closer look.

He asked $1000 I told him $750 and he agreed. What do you think, decent deal?

Sounds like you got a great deal. I'm glad that the owner is telling you that there are things that may need to be done. Sounds like an honest guy.

2 door + 5 spd seems to be very desirable around here.

Thanks guys. Yeah the owner was open about everything and just seemed more interested in getting it out of his garage because he bought a new minivan because of his expanding family.

This is going to be a daily driver/ light trail truck. No serious off-roading, just light trails so I can take my dogs out for leash free walks in the boonies.
