Default Bought a '99 Limited today - Cylinders #1 and #4 missing

So, I made the jump. The body is solid, with only one small rust spot. The interior seems like it is pretty loaded for the time. 194,000 miles on it. This is my first jeep - I got it for $700 - so it's worth the risk and a chance to learn something new.

Everything seems to be in pretty good shape. The worst is the engine is missing. #1 and #4 cylinders are not firing. This started as just #4 not firing, and this morning #1 stopped firing. Using the awesome search button located above, it seems it is fairly common for the wiring harness or PCM to take a **** this way. Any recommendations on where to start?

The oil sender unit stopped functioning, it will work if you fiddle with it but a bit of oil is leaking out of it. Looks like this is about a $35 fix, it seems.

The valve cover gasket seems like it is leaking a little bit.

The front sway bar bushing (drive side) is missing.

Any advice on the mentioned above or general advice is greatly appreciated. I am looking for a solid go-to for parts online. I am new to the offroad world, take it easy on me.

Start with a complete tune up, plugs, cap, rotor, and wires. The oil sender, valve cover gasket, and sway bar link are all very easy fixes. www.rockauto.com is about the cheapest place on the net for parts.

Thanks. RockAuto does offer some pretty low pricing. Their site is a little hard to use. For example, I am looking for a front sway bar bushings (they call it stabilizer bar) and they offer about 20 different bushings. Is their a good way to get the OEM part numbers so I can compare?

The info button will list the OEM part numbers for some stuff.

Thanks, looks like I bought the right one.

Anyone have any tips/tricks as to diagnosing why #1 and #4 aren't firing? I was getting a spark, that leads me to believe that the injectors aren't getting what they need (harness or PCM). It was also firing the #4 injector circuit failure code last time I checked. How typical is a PCM failure? The wires are exposed on the injectors, so I'm assuming a short across those may lead to a PCM failure.

Instead of buying a new PCM and having the wires short again, putting me in the same boat should I replace the harness as well? Is that a giant PITA?

You could make one. Rockauto sells the connections/pigtails for the injectors. Its about $85 for all six plugs then you'll have to get the same size wire for the rest. Pull the harness back enough to connect to good wires. Just a suggestion. I'm having this same issue. Tried everything may be bad injector, harness or PCM.

Is their a way to check if the harness is bad? Can't I connect one end to a multimeter, and the other on the PCM side and check if the harness is able to conduct the current?

I picked up a battery from AutoZone and I couldn't even get the lights to come on. Either the battery is dead or something else went terribly wrong.

I noticed the wires are exposed on some of the injectors.. I imagine this is a good way to cause a PCM failure.

I also picked up a multimeter, I couldn't find a noid light. Any ideas on how to use the multimeter to check the harness?

I think someone shaved the insulation to test the connections... It just so happens the only wires exposed are on the cylinders having issues. Meaning, that is the reason why they are failing... OR someone idiot was testing them that way.

I will be picking up a PCM from the junkyard this weekend. Hopefully, this will yield some results. I will tape up the open wires.

Any advice tackling this would be MUCH appreciated!!
