As the title says, I bought an 01 jeep and at the time of purchase I knew the motor wasn't original but I didn't know the year. Didn't think it mattered. The Jeep has a cracked exhaust manifold and a bad gasket. So I checked the motor year and ordered an exhaust for the 98.

Problem I didn't think about at the time was the o2 sensors. It seems the 01 has 4 while the 98 has 2. Now, I have a CEL on. And I know both of the downstream o2s are unplugged. I know I need to go get it scanned and also check if the up top sensors are plugged in. Whoever installed the motor used the 01 manifold on the 98 motor, from everything I've ready that shouldn't work and maybe that's why there's so much blow by at the gasket.

Anyway. My questions is should I return the headers I ordered and get the 01 version or maybe have them tapped for the sensors? Or would it be easier to get a computer and harness for a 98?

Ideas or spit balling discussion would be helpful. I still need to go get it registered, wasn't expecting the lady to say "About $500" at the DMV today.

 

Get the headers for the 01 would be the easiest thing to do.
