Default Bosch 67649

When I looked this up I see it mentions something that suggest that it's only for 2wd vehicles and may be a 2-pin connector.

Does anyone have any experience with this model pump? What is it missing, if anything? In what way is it different than the 67658?

I don't think that answered any of the questions I asked. I have a lot of experience with rockauto, I've been using them since the late 90's. I'm trying to get a comparison of the two models I mentioned as they both, according the the internet, seem to fit my vehicle. Only the 67658 shows the wiring harness and has a good view of the fuel level sender, but it's not in stock anywhere (at a reasonable price). The pictures of the 67649 seems like the same pump but they edited out the harness and kept the fuel level sender at the back of the picture. I'm wondering if it doesn't come with the fuel level sender- can't seem to get a definitive answer.

Thanks though.

I appreciate your effort to help. I will add the whole story to let you see where I'm coming from.

Bought cheap fuel pump assembly to replace a unit that appeard to be a factory original with over 200K miles on it and had a fuel level sender that didn't work. The new pump assembly worked great for the first few hundred miles but then suddenly began leaking profusely. The leak appears to be a manufacture defect as it leaking in an area not related to any servicable gaskest. I still have most of the parts from the original pump, but not enough to put it back together, even with the kit you linked to. I'm set on buying a Bosch as they seem to be the most reliable.
Here's a link to what I first looked at :
Bosch 67658 Original Equipment Replacement Electric Fuel Pump : Amazon.com : Automotive Bosch 67658 Original Equipment Replacement Electric Fuel Pump : Amazon.com : Automotive

Now, when I first started shoping for this they told me it would be 1 to 2 months before they could get it, which they've now re-worded to 3 to 6 weeks. This is the same story I got from many different suppliers from around the country regarding this exact assembly. So today I come across this part:
Amazon.com: Bosch 67649 Original Equipment Replacement Electric Fuel Pump: Automotive Amazon.com: Bosch 67649 Original Equipment Replacement Electric Fuel Pump: Automotive

Looks nearly identical except for the aforementioned differences in the picture. Note that both of these pumps are $160, which is about half of what anyone else who has them in stock is asking for them and still cheaper than the Carter from RockAuto. It's only $40 more than the rebuild kit mentioned above and gives me the complete(?) assembly. To me it seems like the best way to go for a reliable pump. But I wish I knew what was different. Most pump assemblies I've looked at will fit '97 to '01. Why would this pump only fit '98 according to RockAuto?

I've tried to purchase from forum members from the Buy,Sell, Trade section of the forum but haven't had any luck, no one can close a deal.

Could I wait 3 to 6 weeks, maybe. I know I'd be hoping for 3 and it would be at least 6 though. But if the second one is exactly the same and would work, it's in stock and I could have it by the end of the week.

I've been looking to get a new fuel pump module too as my drainback valve seems to have completely quit, it now takes priming or several cranks to get my XJ to start.

I have a 98 and was looking at the Bosch 67649 module too. I've searched a lot of websites and all seem to point to this one fitting a 98. I was worried because rockauto lists this as for "RWD" but that is the only site I saw that listed. Amazon says it fits, ebay says it fits, several other automotive websites says it fits.

I have heard that 96 and 97 had something different about their fuel pumps.

Yeah, I know. Its just weird that RWD isnt listed for any of the other pumps. Made think they meant 2WD like the OP thought.

I just got a Bosch 67649 in the mail today and it came with the harness and the fuel level sender. It looks just like the pictures I've seen of the stock fuel pump module, even has the Chrysler logo on it.

I haven't taken my fuel pump out yet, so there could still be some problems, but I'll report back when I finish that up.

As it turns out the Bosch #67649 is for a ZJ Grand Cherokee, not an XJ. The connector on the 67649 is the opposite of what you need to connect to the harness otherwise it looks the same.

The correct part for a 98 XJ is the Bosch #67658.
