Default Borla Exhaust Diameter

So my exhaust broke right behind cat, so I figure I would replace everything, I figured I would get the Borla header, may a random tech cat, and the borla catback. (If you can't tell I am a huge fan of Borla) Anyways, the thing that concerns me is the diameter of pipe on the catback, the intermediate pipe is 2.250 inches and the tail pipe is just 2 inches in diameter. Doesn't that seem a bit small? I plan on doing stroker if engine ever dies, and it seems like even with just a 4 liter 2 inches is pretty small.

Don't know your year model, but our '98XJ exhaust was 2.25" below the manifold, then increased to 2.5" before entering the cat, then 2.25" after the cat including the tailpipe. It is now 2.5" Magnaflow from the cat back.

Mine is 93, with those dimensions were you talking about the borla kit or what was stock on your jeep?

Hmm I thought my Borla was 2.25" as well, which I believe to be OE diameter.

I guess I could get the calipers and check this.

Years ago when I was trying to find a quality SS system, Borla was the only option for a complete system (headers/y/cat back).

So even though I was already running a 2.5" catback I trashed it to get the Borla.

Be aware, if you're lifted you may need to hack off the rear pipe and modify as it may interfere with your spring pack. At least it did with mine.

the borla should definitely be 2.25" diameter and if its not then i'd save my money as i'm pretty sure the borla is pricey. my dynomax is 2.25" works great and is only $142 at summitracing right now i just checked

Wow - You're absolutely right. The OD of the last pipe is indeed 2". I never noticed this .

I agree, on a a stroker this could be enough of an issue to avoid Borla. Another option would be to have a 304 SS custom made. But I suspect the cost would be rough.
