I've noticed my Cherokee will bog down or act like it has no power after I take off when I have had it parked for about an hour.

In the morning it doesn't do this. If I leave it off long enough for it to cool completely it doesn't do this.

It'll stumble (not really missing, but just like all power is gone) and then come out of it within about 5 seconds. It happens like this:

I restart it after the lunch hour and back out of my driveway just fine. I get on it to get up to speed on the highway and it hesitates. Finally it takes off and works fine after that.

I'm not throwing any codes at the moment, and have not had any codes thrown while I've owned it.

Any suggestions on things to check out?

 

I had a cracked ignition coil on my old '94 and it behaved like that IIRC. Good when cold or completely hot, but not so good right in the middle. Maybe a place to start checking. I forget, does a '99 have one coil and a distributor or individual coil packs for each cylinder? I think that's just the '00s and '01s or maybe just the '01s.

 

My jeep has a single coil setup. I'll have a looksee. It seems to be running well otherwise.

It did it tonight after I started it from a 4 hour sit.

 

Yeah i would also like any info about this matter. I have a 98 sport and it tends to do this exact thing. It will jump in rpms and hesitate for the first couple minutes of my drive and will be fine after that. My check engine light just came on today because of it.

I was over on NAXJA and it seems to be a big mystery since it could happen due to several reasons. Everyone agrees that the engine heat soaks after you shut it down. That heat soak does one of several things that contributes to the problem. Boils fuel out of the lines, messes with the crankshaft position sensor, catalytic convertor, o2 sensor, or fouls cylinder #3 injector up. Some said running ethanol blend (which I do) seems to be more problematic. It burns hotter and probably evaporates in the lines easier.

I guess the solution is to park your jeep with the hood up

I'll repost here if I ever figure out what my own issue is and how to fix it.
