Alright so recently I have needed to use the heater for obvious reason. Well the blower motor has making a very high pitched sound. I can ususally get it to go away, sometimes it will come back other times it wont. listen to the video and let me know what it wrong please.

anytime below 32 deg f........mine does the same......
I wait until the engine has time to be rather warm......i.e. 10-15 minutes
i do that anyway to get the fluids warm in the engine and tranny..
every time i do that.....the squeal goes away.........hope it helps!

When mine was going out it made a noise somewhat similar, however it wasn't a constant squeal like that. I was more of a growl and squeal at the same time. But I had replaced the blower motor and mine hasn't acted up. (YET) I also changed the fuse and resistor as same time since they were both blown.

Hey,
I just listened to your video.......
leave the fan off until the jeep has had 10-15 minutes to warm up
i.e. heat off, AC off and the 3 position switch off.
then wait till she is really warm then turn on again, betcha it goes away!
I have had this ame problem for many years (living in Upstate NY, and Northern Va. etc etc etc) and i just wait until the engine has warmed for the 10-15 min time and viola! no squeal!
just my experience folks.

I can wait til the engine is at operating temp... Still will make the noise. Or like we had it on while wheeling, it would come on randomly, I would give the engine a little gas it would go away then come back on a little bit later. Does the same thing on the road. comes on randomly. give it a little gas, it goes away(most of the time)

If it comes on randomly then it is def going out. I would replace it before it goes out you like it did me on a 3 hour drive -5 degree drive to Iowa City.... It is not hard at all to replace.
I would also check you resistor to see how it looks. It is located right underneath your passenger dash. It is held in by two screws. In your video it was working just fine, but I have heard the two usually go out in pairs. Can't hurt to check and see what it looks like.

Get a new fan motor and put it in.
Here's why. What you are hearing is the fan motor bearing. initially as it goes bad the sound can only be heard at certain times. As it gets worse the sound will be hear more often. Pitch and volume may change.
Now for the bad part, as the bearing wears it causes a drag on the motor causing the motor to pull more current.
It pulls more current through that switch in the dashboard, and this causes more wear on the switch.
I have gone to the junkyard in search of a switch, 4 out of 5 I pulled were BURNED from excessive current. The 5th one was questionable. Two I pulled has MELTED WIRING from excessive current.
There have been fires in vehicle because of this.
I have found that you can replace all three components, Switch / Fan / Resistor Pack, relatively inexpensive and that is what I plan to do.
New Switch - $32
New Blower - $27
New Resistor - $7
Not Having A Fire - PRICELESS

I'm doing a total replacement.
I figure the switch is rated to handle the motor current, but as it ages maybe the motor draws more current and overloads the switch. Makes sense to replace them all at once.
Also check here for part sources.....

I spent almost 14 years in El Paso long ago.
I like it there a lot .... back then.
Today? Not so much!
I'd go AWOL before I went back there today!

I have the same prob. I figured it was the blower motor going bad. Its just to
cold to go pull one from a jy then put in mine. It blows not having a garage to work in.

WOW... it love the SEARCH feature on this forum!!! i have the same exact problem. blower motor whine and dash lights just when out. I'm assuming the same excessive current draw is happening. so now i need a motor, switch and resistor.
Even better i've never used the heat in my XJ as i bought it in EL PASO, and just moved to NY in May. Bliss to Drum. best thread ever!!!
now how do i actually relace all this stuff? haha. any help would be appreciated. pics, step by step, even a general description should be fine.
