Default Block Heater

2000 XJ. Need a Block Heater. Too many seconds of slow cranking in the morning. It get's to -40 here and its a miracle my XJ even starts. I was look at this Zerostat heater that connects to the freeze plug and plugs in the a wall outlet to keep a constant temp. It's only $30. This one. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...1372&ppt=C0332 Is this the way to go? Seem's like a pretty straight foward install. Any first hand advice with real cold weather like this would be great. THanks.

Instead of pulling a freeze plug, I would try a magnetic attaching heater first if it were me. Or maybe one that plumbs into a heater hose. Less invasive.

Maybe also use 0W-20 oil.

True block heaters, replaces freeze plug, are the best. But, a pain to install. I would use a inline heater for the lower radiator hose. Will keep engine warm and you have heat in vehicle right away. Best way to do them is to put them on a heavy duty timer and have it come on about 90 minutes before you leave in the morning. This way it does not run up your electric bill to bad!

My xj came with a block heater installed into the freeze plug from factory. It was -48*C here up in northern Canada, I had her plugged in for the night and she fired up so smooth. I had heat coming from my vents in about a few mins as well.
