A steady CEL means its being a Chrysler product.
A blinking CEL means something is seriously F'd up.

Its probably the 0331 head crack. Did you pull the oil cap and look to see if its milky? Fire it up to temp and look in the cap hole. That is where they usually crack. right between 3 and 4. I don't know how long you have been driving on it but I'd park it and sort it out right after you run the codes.

Before tossing parts at it
• Get the codes read.
• do a cooling system pressure test. If you have been loosing coolant its going someplace.
•*Then check your plugs see what they look like. google an online plug reading pic tutorial.
• do a compression test
im not losing coolant, i disconnected the batt. and no CEL, but now just a steady CEL like i usually have...i checked for cracks and the oil is clean....i think it blinked due to multiple misfires, i had it pretty hot on the trail...ill have to get the codes pulled sometime this week from neighbor and let yall know what comes of it....it holds normal oil pressure and normal temps too

Why don't people realize this is the FIRST STEP?

All to often I read threads for those with 96 and newer looking for possible solutions, to try something.

Why not try proper diagnostics first?

You can buy a Code Reader/Scanner for less than the cost of throwing a few parts at is unnecessarily.

Just saying' ....

^ very true!

Blinking means its missfiring causing damage to the cat. nothing more, nothing less.

If you have the cyl 3 missfire heat soak problem, i woudl reccomend hood vents and the crappy mopar shields lol, the shields helped but did NOT cure my problem when offroad. If i shut it off and leave it for 5-15 mins it will have the vapor lock issue but not actually throw codes...

CEL and head cracked are not the same thing. I am not saying it isn't but guessing its the head based on nothing is poor judgment. get the codes read, then go from there. if its a miss fire code check compression, plugs, injectors, coil pack (distributor, cap, rotor, wires) depending on which your vehicle has if your not the OP.

ha i have a neighbor who is an awesome mechanic, another guy up the road is a machinist who designs military prototypes and nuclear powerplants operating systems, and the rest of my family and extended family are very mechanically inclined, thats why i dont read codes, its more fun to guess and let other ppl try and figure it out and speculate the good old fashioned way!

back on topic, if it DID have a cracked head, id be getting big issues by now too, so that ruled out and my oils clean, im not even thinking a compression test is neccessary, it runs smooth......i agree with hood vents, im thinking lebaron vents and im gonna make my aux. fan remote operated....what do you think about thermal wrap for the header and injectors?

but on topic,

flashing CEL = cracked head!?

Blinking simply means "fix it now!"

Whatever it sees, it's worried cat damage can occur.

reset the code, it if sees it again, it will flash again.

'till then, find out what code it did set.

Get the code - Autozone will do it for free.
Get the numbers!

WRITE IT DOWN!

DON'T BELIEVE WHAT HE TELLS YOU. 90% of the time they are wrong.

Do a Yahoo or Google search like "95 Cherokee PO132 PO133 PO142"
You'll get pages of what it means, why it set, what to do next etc.

I tossed out cracked head based on the overheat and multiple misfires.
(and the 00-01 crap head)

Thought maybe it was from serious engine damage/detonation.

This is the right answer. A CEL, MIL or whatever you choose to call it, is an indication of an emissions related issue that is harmful to your catalytic convertor. Disconnecting the battery might temporarily eliminate the CEL, but until the original problem is rectified, the emissions issue will remain.

I would recommend getting the vehicle on a scanner and finding out what's wrong with it.

Also so you guy's will know for future use the flashing CEL does coincide with the misfiring cylinder(s)I've been thru this hole thing with mine.It will also do it for multiple misfires and a bad cat etc. But he already stated a misfire (overheat in #3 cylinder) and misfire in #3 cylinder is what jeep has a write up for to it's mechanic's, hopefully this will help clear some of your heads out, also helps to read the whole post.
