Nice clean xj u have there. I would say chrome. If it was me id also get a nice detailing job on it, put some chrome accents (grills and handles) clear markers also to make it look classy. Thats me tho

Could never go wrong with black. But as somebody else posted, if u r going to get it lifted and do some off roading with it, painting it black will be less maintenance. If it gets rock rash just bust out the rattle can and respray.

my vote is black. black on black always looks good to me. chrome looks cheesy to me.

black wheels are the most played out thing in the jeep community every Jeep I see has black wheels...lol that just my opnion... chrome wheels look good or even polished wheels would look good
and black also shows the most dirt...

Good luck on the 4x4 conversion. Just go with black then. Less headache. I myself is going to go with black steel wheels. I have a nice set from my old bronco (brushed alum. "Turbine " style) that i painted the "turbine" spokes black. Wish i could use it but im not into using wheel adapters
