Hey guys- I am looking for a bilstein stabilizer for my 1990 xj without much luck, looks like they have only a few applications for motor homes. I am 90% sure I am going with bilstein HD shocks all around, with the 10% uncertainty because I may run an air shock out back. I can get the HDs for about 60 + shipping each and they have a lifetime warranty.


I am about certain I have seen a pic of an xj on here with a bilstein stabilizer. Anyone have any insight on this?

WHy Bilstein for steering stabilizer seems like a waste of good money. I know bilstein is good don't get me wrong just not necessary to spend that much on a steering dampner.

RE express has one for 35 and you can't go wrong with rubicon express. Try Jeepin Outfitters for a couple of good steering stabilizers.

Yeah, pretty much all steering dampeners are alike in function. Get the least expensive one you can find. Well, that is with tires say 33" and smaller. If it's a cosmetic thing, just paint it to match your shocks and put the same color of boot on it.

 

it's sort of about wanting my stuff to match, but more due to the fact that I know bilstein will be around in 5 years when I need to send these in to be rebuilt.


That said I have dug around the www and they dont make a bilstein stabilizer for our XJ. However, they do make one for every sort of 4x4 land rover....

I appreciate the info/ links guys. I will most likely go with the RE one, however before I order I am going to see if I can make one of the land rover units work. If it is simple as making a bracket or adding a bushing I will do the extra work to get what I want.

that rusty's dual setup is really cool, but I think it would exceed my needs as a daily driver.

it's part of the suspension on a truck with 140k miles, it is rusted out and needs to be replaced. I work for a bilstein dealer. If I can get a rover unit to work without much hassle I'd like to go that route. Maybe I need to get laid and my thinking is all wrong on the matter- I dunno.

There's 0 reason to lift an xj 6 inches or cut the roof off of it or paint a confederate flag on it-but you guys do that too...

So because I am willing to spend a little more for better quality or want to do something outside the box using land rover parts I dont know what I am talking about?

The bilsteins are one of the only stabilizer out there that are not a raw shaft poking out of the cylinder, instead they have a metal sleeve that slides over the cylinder. I'd rather have that than a rubber boot.

 

Try the Teraflex one. Very close match to the Bilsteins.

Old Man Emu makes a stabilizer that's sleeved...if you're looking to spend more than $70 on one.
