well that's why you have a problem. You decreased the wheel backspacing pushing the tires out into the fender flares. Your choices are to lift, or trim the fenders and move the flares up. Or add more bumpstopping.

31"x10.5"R15 on my stock XJ
I managed to fit 31"x10.5"R15 on my 2000 jeep cherokee sport without any lift. I had to trim the rear fenders and take the bumper corners off, but in my opinion, it makes it look much better!

When I first bought my '96 it had 30x9.5 on 15's, the only time it rubbed was when I made a tight left turn, it needed new tires anyway so I bought the same size and no rub at anytime now, different tread will rub I assume

How wide? :P
Considering 245/60/R17 at 28.6" but am concerned about the max width being 9.6".
If 9.6 is fine, how about 10 @ 29"?
The 255/60/R17 is 29" but is also 10" wide or 3/4 of an inch (~0.375" on each side) over the 235 75 15 .
Handy tool for referencing the 235/75/15 28.9" H x 9.3" W (for compare):

see this is where metric tires **** me off cause a 30x 9.50 is just that and a just saying a 30x10.50 or even 11.50 wouldn't be taller just wider so why does a 255/75 not just wider but taller than a 235/75 cause the 75 which is ur sidewall height the same i think its
