i had the used tranny installed, no problems with it to date. I have the bad one, im gonna try to find some info about this aw4 and try to take it apart to see what went wrong. i think somthing went bad in the torque converter. are there any how to threads for rebuilding a aw4 or will i have to make one?? any links or info would be helpful. i think theres a pdf file on ebay with rebuilding instructions

Give them a call - perhaps they can help you. If not : https://www.jasperengines.com/produc...transmissions/
322k miles. At this point the TCC only locks up about 10% of the time that it should. On first drive when cold it doesnt want to leave first. After about 5 min of driving it will start shifting out of first. Developed a whining sound around bellhousing and holds shifts until almost 3000 rpm. Tried hot shot shift restorer which did quiet it down some. It does shift pretty smooth otherwise. I think at 322k miles i got my moneys worth out of it. Even if i stretch this thing to 350k-375k i think its towards the end of its lifespan.
To follow up on my post. The more i drive with this hotshot additive the more improvement i am seeing. Noise is almost gone completely and TCC is locking up more reliably. Probably going to run it 1000 miles and do another bottle with a drain and fill. Hopefully this will buy me 6-8 months to find a reman or shop that does rebuilds.
here is what happens with an AW4
They dont like heat, and it mainly about duty cycle, SO if you live in Florida, it wont last as long as Alaska
Signs of a worn out trans are
1) Reverse will take longer than the max 1.7 secs to engage..check this!
2) will not up change from 1st one first run (tempoary cure, engage 1st for aproxx 1min, work stick though gears, drive away, should work proper
3) Failing TCC solenoid is often the thin wiring. (My solution)..cut the wire, run a thin wire direct between gasket and pan to TCC, it works 100% of the time now!..no trans leak (5A wire), + a 10A fuse)

Im glad you brought up the reverse. Right before it started making the whining noise i noticed reverse takes about 2 seconds or longer to engage. I will definitely try that trick for 1st gear. Its pretty embarrassing leaving home on first drive with engine spinning at 3k and sounds like i have a broken supercharger coming from bellhousing.
