Default Best place to go to for ECM replace/repair, non stop P0202 on 97 4.0

Hey there,

Feel free to move this if it doesn't fit here.

97' Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L

Been a while since I have posted but I am currently dealing with a P0202 that leads to most likely failsafe and misfires. I don't really see much indication that the wires are shorted and have tried to do some tests with a meter and haven't really indicated anything crazy about the wiring.

A while back when I was swapping out O2 sensors, I routed the wire wrong and had it brush on one of the pulleys. The wires definitely shorted out. I quickly fixed them, but I started getting a P0202 shortly after this. Do you think that this may have caused the driver for injector #2 to short out? Also how can I actually tell? The code isn't immediate and happens after the engine has been running and while I am in drive, the conditions stops when I put it in park and the injector seems to work fine. Since this code has been happening I have swapped the injectors three times (currently on a refurbished Bosch set from K Suspension), replaced distributor cap, distributor wires. ignition coil, spark plugs, have a new IAC, new TPS and a older but most likely good MAP. I replaced the upstream O2 sensor again with a NTK. I undid the hole loom that had been heated up over the valve cover and pulled apart every wire and other than some damage that I caused that I have to repair, nothing is fused to the point of shorting out with each other. I have new EV1 connectors coming that I will splice into the harness and replace all the old connectors but I don't know if that will fix it.

I am currently stumped and really want to get this 97' fixed up as I have been doing that whole J.E.E.P. thing with it. I am willing to either dish out the $130 + Shipping to send it to SIA Electronics or buy one of the net for $200, but I am unsure about buying one off the net as the reviews are sketch for a lot of places. If anyone can give me some pointers on what else to check or where to get a decent ECM I would be eternally grateful. Everything I have read and determined is that this is probably going to be what fixes it as the only true fixes I have seen for this are checking your harness or replacing the ECM.

That was one of the sites that had a lot of bad reviews. I bought a used one for $100 today that has a warranty. We will see what it does.

I saw that you already bought one as you mentioned but I'd say X2 on Flagship One, that's where I bought mine and it has served my well. I also liked that I got keep my old PCM.

I didn't end up getting one from Flagship. I ended up getting a Mopar replacement ECU/PCM from eBay for $80. I swapped it out and what do you know, my P0202 went away and I haven't had a misfire since.

I appreciate the tutorial. I am an electrician and can solder but this is something that I much rather pay for. I'm going to get my old one refurbished from a vendor.

I too am an electrician and watched the vids then tried it myself on my 97 gc. it is not possible!~ At least on mine the potting material was all over it nothing would take it off or dissolve it and the components were micro sized anyhow. There are some styles incl mine where the drivers cant be replaced.
I had great luck with a Cardone from Advance, with the exchange it was 90 bux only, they had it on the shelf, and worked perfectly for the last year and half. Plus if it does go bad or is bad outta the box, ..
well, it's Advance just take it back pretty easy to deal locally.
