Default Best manuals for newby,,,

I just purchased my first Jeep, 2001 Cherokee XJ and was wondering if I could get some feedback on what is the best manual just to get started to acquaint myself with the basic of the vehicle. I am mechanically minded and have built muscle and racecars and HD scooters for past thirty five years but NEVER a 4WD.

Also any feedback on tow bars and brackets would be helpful as well,,it will be a toad for bus conversion traveling as well as a DD in certain conditions,,

Thanks to replies in advance,,,

I own a Haynes but almost never use it. The only time I think it'd be worth the money is if you were new to working on cars in general, that way you could get acquainted with all the various systems. But in your case, having worked on cars before which provides you with a basic knowledge of the forces at hand, I'd just rely on the website. That's what I do and I've never been let down.

Best $8 you'll spend for your XJ. EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know and then some.

I've got a Haynes manual but I just use it for various torque specs. No experience with the FSM but from what I hear its nice to have and full of info. Online forums are helpful too!

FSM, haynes and if you can locate one a Jeep Owners Bible, this book is just a good all around read with general tech in the back.

I bought a FSM on Ebay for around $8 for my jeep. It was a PDF so I purchased it downloaded the file and I have it on my computer and my nexus tablet. Great way to pass the time at work giving it a quick look. Don't bother paying $25 for a Chilton or a Haynes. They have great info but their instructions could be incomplete or vague at times.
