theres no real answer here. depends on how much you want to spend and what your going to be using your jeep for.

Ummm...... you asked for the " Best kind of lift kit?"

then you are not looking for the best lift kit. you have a very small budget so in turn are going to get a super cheap product. save some more and buy a good kit. only kit in your price range would be a RC lift. search around for RC lifts

Seriously though, save up some more money and buy a nice quality lift like Rubicon Express or Clayton.

if you have only 300 dollars to spend on a lift. then go with rough country. many many people run it and love it. Yeah some people have to replace bushings, but all you do is call rough country and they'll send you new ones for free. All up to you and how much you want to spend

OK. So my question is:
What make a lift kit good? I mean as opposed to a cheap, not-so-good lift kit.

I kind of think that's what he is asking.

There is an inexpensive 3.5 inch kit which I bought for $290.00 with free shipping. ( Tough Country) Was easy to install. Shocks were extra. Here is how it looks with 31's. It's an OK decent lift for trail riding. But for more extream off roading I wouldn't recomend it.

well you buy the cheapest kit out there you coils will sag, leafs will sag, bushings will go out.

you buy cheap you get cheap in return

Wouldn't that be true only if you used the extra lift off road and forced the suspension to move the full range of it's new capabilities?

I'm saying, if you lifted the rig up 3 inches and never (or almost almost never) used the vehicle off road your springs and leafs would never know they could travel that much.

I'm thinking out loud here...I don't really know a darn thing. But my 97 will get an inexpensive lift because it will almost never go off road.
Canoe58 got a great look out of his '96 that way.
