Default which is the best intake system?

hey i got a question, i have seen several intake systems, k&n, AEM, Airaid, banks, pacesetter, and so on, and i was wondering if there is any particular difference in any of the available high flow intake systems, as far as gas mileage and power increase, considering there can be a big difference in price, i was wondering if it is worth it to pay say $285 for the k&n intake as compared to the $115 pacesetter system. and btw, i live in awesome Wyoming, so it doesn't really matter if it is 50 state legal, you can strait pipe anything here and not have any legal issues as long as you don't break a noise ordinance lol but ya, any input would be helpful

IMO if its just replacing the stock filter. They all are pretty much the same. Its when you star to change the piping and other stuff that one can be better than the other.

I wouldn't touch pace setter with a 10' stick! I have the AFE and love it!

Non ABS

With ABS

I wouldn't necessarily go with the K&N unless it is the drop in style. Ive noticed that there intakes are very expensive and you dont gain as much HP/TQ as other Brands for less$$$$$$.

just my .02

My vote is for the Mopar Performance intake that is on mine.

Looks just like this one. Only difference is the Mopar Performance sticker vs. afe. Still not a bad setup.

Edit: DoubleJ beat me to it.

I like the stock intake.....it will flow more air than the engine can draw, despite what aftermaret intake companies claim (they wouldn't lie to u, would they).

But it does not sound as cool.

My mileage increased and throttle response is crisp. However my butt dyno tells me I didnt really gain any power.

so are there any intake systems like the afe or k&n that are under $200? they are basically the same thing from looking at them, but are there any like those systems that are a little cheaper? the afe is between 240 and 250 on their site, and the k&n is 285 at 4wheeleparts.com

i have the aFe intake installed on mine. very pleased with it. i did get a little butt dyno jump after installing it, but nothing too terribly noticeable. when i installed the BBK throttle body did i feel a bit more. usually, to get and feel any extra performance, there a things you have to add and do to get the full effect. but just swapping the stock air box and filter with any upgrade is going to give you engine a better background to work on.

here is a pic of the aFe installed on my I6:

i bought mine off the etrailer.com web site. they had the best deal on them at the time at $165. they ended the sale on them awhile back, but even doing a google shopping search will turn up some less expensive hits on the item. they have great customer service as well, and you get it no later than 7 days.

Look.. the filter is the worst part of the K&N intake... Cotton gauze is great for wrapping wounds.. but lousy for filtering air. Take a look inside your intake at all the dust in there..

easy solution: wash the filter in regular intervals and re-oil it properly. the oil exists to catch those small dust and dirt particles while still allowing the better air flow from the cotton. when you neglect to clean and oil any after market oil based filter, that will happen. had the liberty of seeing that first hand on a guys Mustang with an AEM kit installed. no filter will ever catch all the really fine particles that are fractions of a micron, but will trap all the ones that will damage you engine.

you know, just saying. but if K&N are using a very loose and porous cotton, then yeah, no good.
