Default best gears and/or axle for 33s

Hey yall I got a quick question. I have a 1990 cherokee and have a 3" lift with 31s and Im trimming the fenders and putting 33s in there. whats the best axle/gear combination for this set up? I believe I have a D-30 up front and D-35 in the rear. its stock axles so i believe thats what came stock. and also I believe its got 3.73:1 gears correct me if im wrong. thanks in advance for the help.

Stock is probably 3.55.

The D35 isn't going to like those 33s. Probably be fine on the street but if you get into some wheeling you might break it.

It's not the gears in the D35 that are the problem. It's just a weak axle. Supposedly the 29-spline 8.25 is plenty strong.

get rid of the 35.
a 44 would be nice, or a 8.25 could handle them. 4.56 gears for close to stock power/torque.

Mine has a whining d35 and will be on 33s soon, hope I dont grenade it.

a 29 spline 8.25 would be able to handle 33's no problem. 44's are getting harder to come by. also, 4.56 would be a good ratio.

Mathematically, going from 225/75/15 tires with 3.55 rear gears, the equivalent gear, with 33" tires, would be a 4.14:1 ratio. Going even higher (numerically) would give u a little more pep.

8.25 will hold those 33's all day, if you arent going bigger than 33 it's not really worth shelling out the gold people want for d44's.

I just installed 4.56 gears, drives nice but I wouldn't want anything numerically lower (ex. 4.10), so either 4.10 or if you like it low then even 4.88 seems like it might be decent.

yeah so after researching and taking in yalls advice im def going for the 8.25 with 4.56 gears. but thats a good bit away. I got save up for the tires (college student) and my 31s got plenty of tread left. thanks guys. I just got through cutting my front fenders today. I cant wait till I get a new welder so I can cut my rears cuz Im not doing cut and fold. Im doing cut and weld lol Ive seen it done

One more question I know the D35 is too weak to handle 33s but what about my D30 in the front? do I need to get a D60?
