That is a good question. I am guessing probably not. I have owned the XJ for a year. I bought a trans cooler so hopefully that helps.

 

Yeah, that makes the most sense. I will pick up a new radiator and water pump this weekend and all the other parts I have missed. So far have the:

- radiator upper and lower hoses
- radiator cap (with temp reading)
- thermostat
- transmission cooler
- 02 sensor (hopefully a new sensor will cool down the cat conv)

Hopefully I can figure out all the parts I need so I don't have to run to the parts store a million times.

Do you have a specific brand in mind? I saw NAPA has one (NAPA brand) with a lifetime warranty.

 

What is a "radiator cap (with temp reading)"????.......just get a Stant (non-lever) rad cap specific to your year/motor or get one from the dealership. It should have a 13-16 lb rating range.

 

I dont have a temp guage inside my XJ, so I got a 16 lb cap (without a lever) that has a temp gauge. I thought when I pull over I can check the gauge to see how hot it is running. So then I would know how long to wait around. However, I am hoping my new cooling system will work good and I can just use a normal cap after I test it for a while.



If it is junk, I will just return it.

 

I like using an infra-red temperature gun. Not practical while driving but is very handy all around the jeep.
For tranny temps I have a sender in the 'hot' line and one in a port. The hot line sender reads what comes out of the torque converter, the other reads the overall temp of tranny.
The IR gun can find hot spots and blockages, also the difference between the 'coolant in' and 'coolant out' of radiator. And sticky brakes, bad wheel bearings, AC temps, etc.

 

Return it......get a temp gun instead (link below). All kinds of uses, handy as a pocket on a shirt. Aim at the t-stat housing/cover. The rad cap location is a terrible place to get a temp reading......it's on the "cold" end of the radiator thus temp reading will be inaccurate.

Edit: The Mishimoto-R2340 Radiator - This radiator is applicable for manual LHD models and both automatic and manual RHD vehicles. So it wont work.

Has anyone had any experience with a Mishimoto-R2340 Radiator? I might buy that one.

That is a pricy radiator. Mishimoto is a forum member here and just posted this morning about their radiators and being for RHD or manual LHD.

Advance Auto has coupons for $30 off an $80 online purchase. I prefer NAPA over the others when it comes to parts.

Your lower radiator hose may have a spring in it to prevent collapse. I reuse the spring in the new hose. Some say the newer hoses are stiff enough, maybe when cold but not at 210 F.

 

No, I don't even really know what that is - besides what the name describes. Is that a normal thing to do when replacing your cooling system?
