Default Bent driprail causing rust and cab leaking

Looks like some one tried to break in years back as with most XJs it bent the drip rail up. I noticed leaking in cab after heavy rain yesterday , and the dent in rail caused the body to rust where the water is now channeled. Anyone have a fix for this? I was just going to add some weather stripping .

If you are looking to do it on the cheap sand the rust away buy a can of white rustoleum spray the bare ( you can get a rustoleum primer also but I think the paint is good enough) & get automotive seam sealer, seal it up & spray it again.

Well you got the sanding and primer right, what the hell is the seam sealer for (not right at all bad info). straighten the bent areas, sand and prime rust if body filler is needed well than you get it right. Then sand and re-prime. Seam sealer is for floorboards trunks etc not here. And also paint with no primer is not good enough.

Body work is an obvious answer & why would anyone ask the obvious. Did you take notice to I said on the cheap being he left it that way for years I think he said & was not looking for obvious. . Seam sealer is used for a lot of areas including what you said but think for a minute is roof completely welded on or spot welded inches apart then seam sealed or caulked from the factory. Seam seal automotive quality which is what I believe I said is fine to seal out water leak & is used all over a unitzed body & if it is a seam between welds would do just fine. Standard paint automotive paint calls for primer I agree but I said with rustoleum I have applied to bare sanded rusted damaged surfaces for years with no ill effect & it would cover the seam sealer.
