Default belt squeal after not running for a couple weeks?

i've been doing some work on my jeep and its been taking me a long time, the last time i started her up was about two weeks ago and before that it was about another two weeks. when i started it the first time two weeks ago the belt squealed pretty loud so i shut it down and sprayed some wd-40 on all of the belt accessories. this seemed to quiet it up so i let it run for about twenty seconds and noise went away and i proceeded to let the engine warm up and run for awhile.

now i went to start it today and it was way way worse. each turn of the starter got louder and louder until the engine fired and it was just screaming (the belt that is). so i shut it down, lubed everything up, went to crank again, and still the same squeal.

This definitely isn't my most intelligent post (i should have started her up every few days or at least weekly) but any insight on where to look first by anybody thats had the same problem is greatly appreciated

Is the belt nice and tight? Old? Are all of your pulleys on nice and tight? Belt is in the grooves it should be in?

Just my initial thoughts.

thanks man, the belt is under a year old but i was afraid one of the pullys or something might have seized up. turns out i just needed more wd-40. way more lol and that did the trick. but it still makes me wonder what it seizing up causing it to do this?

they belt may just be stiff after sitting for so long. all the wd is doing is softening it back up. if it squeals just let it warm up and the belt will get better.

yeah that is odd. if the belt is good and on super tight (does the belt loosen after running for a while? might have a tensioner bolt stripped) and the pulleys are good. Run it with he hood up and watch to see if you can see a pulley or something seizing or getting in the way. Maybe a loose hose or something. Hows your water pump?
Mine was total crap and had been worn down to nothing. Maybe check it to see if the flaps are bent. might be worth a look.

These are just thoughts to help you troubleshoot.

Any chance that you have the a/c or defrost on when you start it? The reason why I ask is my belt squeals whenever I put the a/c on when I'm just at an idle. Just my two cents.

this makes the most sense i'm gonna have to agree with you. after letting it run awhile it was just fine. its been cold and dry here, that could have something to do with it.
