I just replaced the power steering pump on my 01 cherokee. Now it squeaks horribly. Im assuming the serp belt is just not set to the right tension, but i dont have the manual and cant find it online. Does anyone else have this problem and know the correct tension and how to find it without any special tools?

The right tension is about 1/2" deflection when you press on the belt,it will vary depending on distance between pulley's. You may have to tighten more than that depending on the belt condition,be careful to not tighten to much,it will put stress on the the pulley bearings and cause premature failure.

Is the belt squeaking or is it the pump? If it is the pump, you may have air in the lines...does the fluid look foamy? If so, turn the wheels fully lock to lock several times to get the air out and add fluid if necessary.
