Default Belt problems help

my friend has a 1990 jeep cherokee. we replaced his belt and now it is squeals very loud and it is getting chewed up. so we pulled the belt back off and found that the idler pulley and altenator were bad. so we put it back together and still the same thing.

any suggestions?

My bud had a problem like this, ended up replacing just about everything on the front of the engine with a bearing with no luck. Getting another belt solved the issue.

Try throwing the old belt back on and see if it still has issues.

Make sure the belt is on correctly, make sure it's tensioned correctly. Make sure someone didn't over tighten the belt and trash an accessory. Make sure all your accessories are free and spinning.

That just about hits it all.

4.0 belts need to be tight, if not they will squeel.
