Default Bellhousing??

Cps, is there a giant hole around the bellhousing factory???

And is it possible for the cps to drag on the flex plate

On my renix. Where the cps bolts in on the bell housing... it feels like there is a 2x4 hole in the bell housing is this normal.

And is it possible for the cps to drag on the flex plate.

Yes, normal. In five rigs I've had (all RENIX, by the by...) I've only seen the "dust cover" in place on one. It's a little flexible plastic cover that pops into place - since the hole in the bell is up top, I've never felt a need for that cover.

Generally, no. There's no real radial adjustment available on the CKP, and there are shoulders on the screws that just fit into the holes in the CKP bracket to positively locate the thing (if it rides too close to the trigger notches, it can "self-clearance." If it rides too far out, it won't generate enough of a signal to be useful.)

The thing is pretty well fixed in its proper place, once you've mounted it.

Thanks 5-90, I forgot your one of the renix God's.

I have an update from last night I'm curious about. Hopefully you can help.

I removed one of the cps bolts and tilted it away so I could crank with no start.

It then did the turn turn turn CLUNK CLUNK... it was pretty violent. And I then lost the nerve to crank it again for fear of damage.

Could it be that my cracked flex plate has finally given out?

Dumb question - but are you sure you kept the screw out of the bellhousing after you'd removed it?

Also, did you have the CKP tied back so it wouldn't fall in and get caught on the trigger teeth?

Check those two first (since that's what it sounds like to me...) and then worry about the cracked flexplate. I've talked about how to check the flexplate before tho - probably here - so try searching for it and see if you can't find it. It's easy to do, requires no power, and can be done with a heavy screwdriver and a decent hand lamp (people wonder why I like my SureFires...)

And next time you want to crank but ensure no start? Just remove the CNX at the ICM, or disconnect the CKP electrically. Safer that way...
