Bed-liner as paint for jeep?
I was looking around online and I saw people use like a roll-on bed liner to paint their jeeps. I was wondering if anyone on here has done it, if they can post pictures, and if they can give me their opinions. Its much cheaper than painting the car, and I think it looks badass. But does it weigh the vehicle down a LOT? I was looking at like some dark green Grizzly grip bed liner. It's about $100 a gallon.

Haven't really saw it on here or on a XJ, but there is a guy around me (Another OCA Member) has a 40 Olds Business Coupe that he did in orange spray on bedliner. (Has the lic. plate ORNGPEL, think about it, its funny.) He loves it, doesnt get rock chips, you can wash it and not worry about waxing it, and if you want a showroom detail, Armor All it (Helps with the bird crap too.).

I wouldn't do it as paint for the Whole thing. For one if you don't like it, it will be a PIA to get off. Just start by doing the rockers and if you like then move up through the quarter panels and one day if that isn't enough then go for it all.

Flat Black and OD green is a popular color to go with on rattle canning a Jeep. Definitly do it first. I only have my rocker rhinoed on my jeep and I constantly rubbing my fingers on it and stuff and it ain't comfy. Looks great but can almost break the skin lol.

I used bedliner on my '93 (lower part of the doors, rocker panels, quarter panels, and door jambs) and it looks great, and really protects against gravel roads. My XJ is black (as is the bedliner), so you hardly notice it, but I really like the look.
One caution: DON'T rub against it, it will remove skin if you have the "knobby" bedliner. I use a scrub brush to clean mine, one time when the brush slipped out of my hand it took the skin off of my knuckles. That would be my biggest concern about doing the whole body in it...

Bed-liner as paint for jeep? Heck yes!
I rolled it on my 88 XJ. I run the roads in northeastern Nevada and never worrying about the sage brush scratching the paint. When I get home, I take the water hose and rinse the dirt off or take it to a car wash and pressure wash it. Like NeosXJ said, it will take the bark off of your hide!

...And be very, very, very careful if you go to the bathroom while you are putting it on! You get that stuff on your skin and it stays there for a loooong time!
And no, I'm not speaking from experience. I read a thread on another forum a couple of years back about "herculing your hootie". It was the funniest thing I ever read!
