Default Battery questions....

Ok so I need to replace my old worn out Costco battery ASAP. I'd like to use an odyssey/ die hard platinum but I may have to wait a few days to get one, and I can be rather impatient, so my question is;

I saw a battery at a local store that caught my eye, its an exide edge agm (fpagm24dp) its a marine dual purpose dual post battery, but its a group size 24 with ~900cca.
-Will a group size 24 fit in a cherokee? (It looked like it might...)
-And is the ~900cca too much for the cherokee (stock wiring etc?)

I plan to run a winch and a few other things soon (like lights and compressor, but no crazy stereo) and upgrade the alternator and wiring, just don't really have the cash to do it all right now and don't want to do any damage. Sorry for the long post, any input is appreciated!

Did some checking and the dimensions they show online say its ~.25" longer, essentially the same width, and ~1" taller. I think it may work so I might just give it a shot unless anyone thinks its not the best choice?

I also noted amazon and a couple other sites list it at ~800cca but the one I saw at my local parts store said ~930cca.....

What year is your Cherokee. If it's a 96 or earlier you can get a bigger battery tray out of a 97 or newer and it bolts right in. Group 34 is as big as will fit comfortably with no modification. That size will give you plenty of CCA and reserve time.

It is impossible to have too many amps available in a battery. Batteries do not "push" amps into the components that are wired up to them. The various components draw current according to their design and various external factors including voltage that affect current draw at a given time.

The important thing is to have adequately sized wiring for the potential current draw along with proper fuses where appropriate.

Its a 1998, guess I need to fill out my info (thought I did...)
I see a fair amount of "extra space" in my battery tray so I think it will fit. I've been doing some reading since I got home and it actually sounds like a good battery and I can get a great price on it so I think its worth a shot....

And thank you Pelican! That makes sense, I figured the vehicle would only take what it needed, I just don't know much about 12v (or electricity in general) but some toolbag's on other forums had posted all this stuff about running 'too big' of a battery, which seemed to be the opposite of what everyone else said.... Including one saying something along the lines of the guy saying he worked at some automotive facility and claiming he had seen many vehicles with fried wiring from running batteries with too many cca's.... Kinda made me scratch my head....

"some automotive facility" probably means the new guy at Jiffy Lube. He's wrong, Pelican is right.

You can have all sorts of reserve in your battery with no issues. It'll just sit there until something demands the current.
Big battery capacity + new high current accessories + OEM wiring is asking for trouble, the accessories demand current and the battery can supply it. The wiring in between needs to be upgraded too. That's where the trouble often lies.

34 fits nicely and has plenty of reserve.

Batteries were never an issue in XJs. Undersized wiring always was.
