Default Battery Light Off and On

97 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L. Battery light comes on intermittently like days between occurrence. Can a bad battery connection cause the light to come on or would it be that the alternator is on its way out? Battery is couple of months old, and has only run the battery down yesterday. Any suggestions? Really curious what the exact parameters are for the battery light to come on. Thanks in advance.

That light isn't going to tell you a whole heck of a lot. As a first step, you need to check voltages at battery and/or alternator with a meter and then swap in a full gauge cluster first chance you get. Let us know what readings you get.

Start by checking "ALL" connections both positive and negative for tightness no rust on grounds bright metal.
