Default Battery Hold Down: 1996 XJ vs all the others

This is the only battery hold down at NAPA that looks like the one in my 1996 XJ, at least before I let battery corrosion beat the Hell out of it. However, the online store says it does not fit my 1996 4.0L XJ.

In the store, they said that it fits pre-1995, 1997 and over. They did not have one in stock, so I could not compare it to my corroded one anyway.

Will a 1995 or 1997 one of these work anyway?

I just bought that for my '00 from Napa.
So that is just a rebranded Dorman part.
Part #00593.
Can't find it on the AutoZone website but did find it on the Advance Auto and O'Reilly's websites.
Maybe they have one in stock for you to eyeball.

There is nothing very specific about the 96 battery position and/or hold down. I cross compared the picture of the part you posted as well as looking up the mopar part on ebay. They look visually very similar to the one on my 96. But because there are no measurements provided for the fastener positions, I have no way of being certain. My best guess would be that it would work. Unless for whatever reason the fasteners on the 96 have a unique offset, which I just don't think is the case. If the part you want shows a fit for 95 and below, there is a very good chance it is also a fit for the 96. There is less chance when using a fit for a 97+ because they did alter the position of things during the redesign.

So I looked up the part numbers.

'94 to '96 parts catalog.

5501 0722 BRACKET, Battery

'00 parts catalog.

5 BRACKET, Battery Hold Down
5501 0722 1 EP0,

I think you are good.
But there is one thing that bugs me.
According to Napa a '96 would use a 7558 battery.
7.25" in width.
My '00 would run a 7534.
6.875" in width

I had to order mine too.
I had the owner put mine on his factory order.
So I had to wait a bit. But there was no shipping charges.
Our local warehouse did not have it.
None of the warehouses that we can shuttle from had it in stock.
No shipping charges on a shuttle.
Other warehouses around the country had it but there would be
shipping charges if I ordered it from one of them.

Did the online order, pickup in store "no extra charge". My NAPA, the warehouse at 5937 Middlebrook Pike Knoxville, TN 37909 called me right up and did not bother leaving a message. I called them back, they said they did not have any of these items in store (had an order for toothed lock washers too), they would have to order from out of State an charge me shipping.

BTW, I ran into this issue years ago at the NAPA in Herndon, VA. I needed a fuel pump relay, they were able to match one on the second try. Figured I should replace them all so bought what they had and asked when I could pick up some more. They said they would have to charge me some kind of stocking or shipping fee for them.

Thanks but no thanks. Cleaned out the nearby Jeep dealer of relays, which were about the same price.

Morris has them and the price is close enough to NAPA as to not be a quibble.

The box from Morris arrived today, a few days ahead of the estimates. Everything fit fine. Battery hold down, brake and clutch pedal pads.
